Online Identity

Not saying who you really are on the internet has a become a rather big problem ever since the invention of the world wide web. This week in class we discussed the problem of online identity deception and also worked on a paper discussing this issue. I have come to several conclusion and assumptions of online identity through my own research. The one thing that I want to mention is that online identity deception will always take place no matter what measure is taken to prevent this action. People seem to be motivated by some matter in order to be deceptive. Whether it's a woman who is uncomfortable with her older, heavier self posting a picture from 10 years earlier to a the local molester trying to luer in children. All forms of deception seem to have some sort of motivation as the driving factor to be deceptive and those motivations can be easily seen once the person come out from behind the monitor. I enjoyed learning about online identity this week and the stories being studied. Hopefully, if I'm careful, I will not be a victim of some one else's deception.

BLOGS

This week in class we learned about and set up our own blog site. I found this very interesting because I have never been one to make a blog or even it read one at that. Although new to me, I cought on very quickly and navigating through my blog page came with some ease. The deal with this blog is that our class must make a weekly contribution to our blog disscussing various technologies and other things that pertain to this course. In this sense, blogs are far from being an emerging technology since their existence in 1994 by Justin Hall. However, since blogs were introduced that have come a long way in their popularity. From people posting weekly and daily blogs to micro blogs such as facebook status updates and twitter, blogs are more popular than ever. As mentioned before, I haven't really been a huge fan of blogs our following people on blogs so this is all rather new to me. I hope that since blogs are rising in popularity, I can get accustomed to this weekly post or atleast a weekly follow of someone else of value to me.
